ATLANTA, Ga. — Morehouse College football returns to B.T. Harvey Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 12, when the Maroon Tigers host Central State University in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
Morehouse enters the matchup 0-2 overall and 0-1 in SIAC play following a 31-21 setback to Clark Atlanta in the ATL HBCU Labor Day Classic. Central State also enters at 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play after falling 48-26 at Grambling State.
Saturday's contest is part of Morehouse's Den of Honor weekend.
Series History
Morehouse has controlled the series against Central State, holding a 5-0 all-time advantage.
The Maroon Tigers have defeated the Marauders in each of the five previous meetings, with victories in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2025. Last season, Morehouse traveled to Wilberforce, Ohio, and earned a 31-26 victory in a game that helped spark the Maroon Tigers' first three-game winning streak since 2021.
Morehouse followed that victory with a 31-7 win over Lane after opening the streak with a 27-20 victory over Tuskegee.
Morehouse Offense Finding Balance
Through two games, Morehouse has produced 362.0 yards of total offense per game, with 234.0 yards coming through the air and 128.0 on the ground.
The Maroon Tigers have also accumulated 46 first downs and have controlled the football for nearly 35 minutes per game.
Senior quarterback Miles Scott continues to lead the offense. Scott has completed 41 of 71 passes for 466 yards through the first two games and has also scored two rushing touchdowns.
The ground game has been led by Chase DeVaughn, who has rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 5.0 yards per carry. Savion Red has also contributed a rushing touchdown.
In the passing game, Jeremiah Gibson leads Morehouse with 174 receiving yards, while Eric Stephens has a team-best nine receptions. Gavin Fletcher, Noah Rhodes, Dylan Brooks and Red have also contributed through the air.
Scott Closing In on Morehouse History
Scott enters Saturday continuing one of the most significant record chases in Morehouse football history.
The senior began the season with 4,642 career passing yards after setting single-season school records in 2025 with 2,559 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, 183 completions and 331 attempts.
With 466 yards through the first two games of 2026, Scott now has 5,108 career passing yards.
That total places him third on Morehouse's all-time career passing list behind Chivalrik Daughtry (5,240) and Jimmie Davis (5,662).
Scott needs just 133 passing yards to move into second place and 555 yards to establish a new Morehouse career record.
Morehouse Defense Led by Johnson
Senior linebacker Sean Johnson continues to anchor the Maroon Tigers' defense.
Johnson leads Morehouse with 17 tackles and three tackles for loss through two games. Dylan Robinson has added 11 tackles, while Jordan Williams has 10 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
The Morehouse defense has been particularly effective on third down, limiting opponents to just 4-of-17 conversions, or 23.5 percent.
That could be one of the key matchups Saturday against a Central State offense converting 48 percent of its third downs.
Scouting Central State
Central State enters Atlanta after showing improvement offensively in its second game of the season.
The Marauders totaled 386 yards of offense against Grambling, including 248 passing yards and 138 rushing yards. Central State scored 16 fourth-quarter points in the 48-26 loss.
Quarterback Jackson Wasik has completed 28 of 53 passes for 521 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Running back Isaiah Thompson leads the rushing attack with 138 yards and a touchdown, while wide receiver Avantae Burt has nine receptions for 171 yards and a score.
Defensively, Travion Searcy and Braylon West lead the Marauders with 13 tackles apiece.
Keys to the Game
Morehouse will look to take advantage of a Central State defense that has surrendered 275.5 rushing yards per game through its first two contests.
Finishing drives will also be important for the Maroon Tigers. Morehouse has reached the red zone nine times this season but has scored touchdowns on four of those trips. Defensively, keeping Central State out of manageable third-down situations could help Morehouse continue its early-season success in that category.
Ball security and explosive plays will be another point of emphasis. Central State is averaging 17.9 yards per completion, giving the Marauders the ability to create chunk plays through the passing game.
