Morehouse Looks to Finish Season Strong at Kentucky State

Maroon Tigers visit Frankfort for Saturday's regular-season finale

ATLANTA, Ga. — Morehouse College will look to close out the 2026 football season on a winning note Saturday when the Maroon Tigers travel to Frankfort, Kentucky, to face Kentucky State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Alumni Stadium, with the game streaming on the SIAC Network.

Morehouse (3–6, 3–4 SIAC) enters the contest looking to snap a two-game losing streak, while Kentucky State (7–2, 6–1 SIAC) has won three straight games and can secure a spot in the SIAC Championship Game with a victory. The matchup was originally scheduled to take place in Nassau, Bahamas, as part of the YES HBCU Football Classic before the event was canceled. Both schools agreed to move the game back to the original site of the game on Kentucky State's campus.

Morehouse Looking to Bounce Back

The Maroon Tigers are coming off a tough 26–23 loss at Allen on October 31. Morehouse nearly erased a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit, scoring 13 unanswered points before the Yellow Jackets held on for the victory. Quarterback Miles Scott completed 13 of 26 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns, both to Noah Rhodes. Rhodes finished with three receptions for 107 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown.

The comeback also featured a big special teams play when Joshua Houston blocked an Allen punt and Jordan Woods returned it 22 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to three points with 3:07 remaining. Defensively, linebacker Sean Johnson led the Maroon Tigers with 16 tackles.

Scott enters Saturday with 6,520 career passing yards, extending his Morehouse career record. This season, he has thrown for 1,878 yards and nine touchdowns. Jeremiah Gibson leads the receiving corps with 35 catches for 539 yards, while Rhodes has 514 yards and five touchdowns. Chase DeVaughn leads the rushing attack with 525 yards, and Savion Red has scored 12 total touchdowns.

Kentucky State Playing for a Championship Berth

The Thorobreds enter Saturday with plenty on the line. Kentucky State can earn a trip to the SIAC Championship Game with a victory over Morehouse. The Thorobreds are also ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II Super Region Two's latest NCAA Power Index.

Kentucky State is coming off a dramatic 27–24 victory over Savannah State on October 24. Trailing 24–20 with just over a minute remaining, quarterback Juan Gainous connected with A'iyon Carter on a 48-yard touchdown pass with 21 seconds left to secure the win. Gainous finished with 283 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Carter caught 10 passes for 119 yards.

Kentucky State has one of the SIAC's most productive offenses, averaging 33.4 points and 406.8 yards per game. Gainous leads the passing attack with 1,809 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Thorobreds have also been strong defensively, allowing 21.2 points per game while recording 26 sacks and nine interceptions.

A Series All Square

Saturday marks the 34th meeting between Morehouse and Kentucky State, with the all-time series tied at 16–16–1. Morehouse has won seven of the last 10 meetings, but Kentucky State took last season's matchup 35–17 at B.T. Harvey Stadium in Atlanta.

The Maroon Tigers will look to even the score after last year's loss while keeping the Thorobreds from securing a championship berth. For Morehouse and first-year head coach Brad Sherrod, Saturday offers one final opportunity to finish the season on a positive note and carry some momentum into the offseason.
