Morehouse Heads to Howard Looking for Third Straight Win

Maroon Tigers take momentum to Washington, D.C., as several DMV natives return home

ATLANTA, Ga. — After picking up consecutive wins over Tuskegee and Savannah State, Morehouse College will look to keep its momentum going Saturday when the Maroon Tigers travel to Washington, D.C., to face Howard University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET at Greene Stadium as the Bison celebrate Homecoming.

Morehouse (3–4, 3–3 SIAC) has won three of its last four games under first-year head coach Brad Sherrod, while Howard (2–4) returns home following a 24–20 loss at Penn.

Morehouse Finding Its Rhythm

The Maroon Tigers are coming off a 34–23 Homecoming victory over Savannah State on October 11. Morehouse jumped out to a 21–0 first-quarter lead and forced three turnovers, including a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown by Stephen Rowser. Quarterback Miles Scott completed 27 of 37 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns, surpassing the 6,000-yard career passing mark. Scott enters Saturday with 6,156 career passing yards, extending his Morehouse school record.

Savion Red accounted for three touchdowns against Savannah State and leads the Maroon Tigers and the SIAC with 12 total touchdowns this season. Chase DeVaughn leads the rushing attack with 435 yards, while Jeremiah Gibson has a team-high 28 receptions for 439 yards.

Morehouse's defense has also made an impact, recording a SIAC leading 10 interceptions through seven games, including an SIAC leading three returned for touchdowns.

A Homecoming for the DMV Maroon Tigers

Saturday's trip will be special for several Morehouse players returning to their home region. Scott, a Laurel, Maryland, native, headlines a group of 12 Maroon Tigers from the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia area. Jeremiah Gibson, a Temple Hills, Maryland, native, joins Scott among the team's top offensive performers, while Dumfries, Virginia, native Joziah Campbell leads Morehouse with three interceptions. Defensive lineman Jordan Williams, a Washington, D.C., native, has recorded seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

The return gives several Maroon Tigers an opportunity to play in front of family and friends.

Howard Looking to Bounce Back

Howard enters Saturday following a difficult loss at Penn. The Bison led 20–10 entering the fourth quarter before surrendering two touchdowns, including the winning score with 57 seconds remaining.

Quarterback Ja'Shawn Scroggins has thrown for 912 yards and six touchdowns this season. Eden James leads Howard with 182 rushing yards, while Se'Quan Osborne has 198 receiving yards. Defensively, Kaleb Gallop leads the Bison in tackles, while Rodney Roane Jr. has recorded 3.5 sacks.

There will also be a familiar face on the Howard sideline. Bob Whitfield, who served on the Morehouse coaching staff during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, is now Howard's offensive line coach. The former Atlanta Falcons first-round draft pick played 15 seasons in the NFL.

Renewing a Historic Series

Saturday marks the 42nd meeting between the two programs. Howard leads the all-time series 29–10–2 and has won nine of the last 10 matchups.

The Bison defeated Morehouse 38–10 last season in the HBCU NYC Football Classic at MetLife Stadium. The Maroon Tigers' last victory in the series came in 2011, a 30–27 win. Morehouse will look to end that drought while extending its current winning streak to three games.
