SAVANNAH, Ga. __ Demetrius Calip II led two double figure scores with 12 points in just 16 minutes, as Morehouse fell to Miles, 63-58, in the SIAC Men's Basketball Championship Semifinal round.
With the game tied 5-5, Miles went on an 8-0 run starting at the 14:29-mark, later finding themselves up 21-8 with just over eight minute to go. The Golden Bears controlled the tempo in the period, extending their lead to as many as 16 at 28-12, before Morehouse clawed back into the game, closing the half on a 9-0 run to trail at the break 28-21.
The Maroon Tigers opened the scoring in the second half with a jumper from Cedric Taylor to put the score at 28-23, however Miles went up double figures again at the 14-minute mark at 33-23.
Later in the half,
Chukwuebuka Nwafor went on a personal 7-0 run, on his way to seven second half points, closing the deficit to 43-38 with just over eight minutes remaining. The run continued into the next few possessions as the center scored again with a minute later to cut the lead to five, 45-40, however Morehouse could not close the gap, falling by the same margin, 63-58.
Cedric Taylor III was the other Maroon Tiger in double figures, finishing with a double-double of ten points and ten rebounds in the loss.
Morehouse finished the game shooting 36.7 percent (22-for-60) from the floor, 25 percent (4-for-16) from long range, and 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from the free throw line, compared to 34.5 percent (from the floor, 27.3 percent from three, and 79.2 percent from the charity stripe from Miles.
