Morehouse defeated by Winston-Salem State, Will Play Again Tomorrow For Consolation Game

Box Score Uncasville, CT- The Morehouse men's basketball team was defeated by Winston-Salem State, 45-58, in the opening round of the Chris Paul HBCU Tip-Off at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Monday evening. To start off the tournament was Virginia Union vs West Virginia State which Virginia Union took the win final score 75-49.

The Maroon Tigers fall to 1-2 overall with the loss against the Rams jump to a 4-1 on the season with the win.
Senior forward Kerry Richardson was the top scorer leading Morehouse with 8 points. To help with the score was junior guard Jordan Sterling and sophomore Andrew Stewart who chipped in 7 points each. The top rebounders were Akonobi who had 8 rebounds and Johnson who had 7 rebounds.  

The game started out with Morehouse getting the jump ball against WSSU, but the game soon changed pace has WSSU made the first 2 points of the game, but Sterling soon tied the score with 18:58 in the first half. Morehouse tried to keep a steady pace with against the Rams, but they eventually took the lead at the last .2 seconds of the game when Cameron Campbell hit a 3-pointer ending the first half with 21-30.

As the second half started the Maroon Tigers struggled to make their shots along with setting a pace. WSSU started out the second half by making back-to-back shots making the score 21-35 within the first 2 minutes of the game. Morehouse went 15 minutes without making a single point until Akonobi was fouled and made both of his free throws. As the game continued the Maroon Tigers struggled with gaining momentum, defensive skills, and consistency as WSSU was making most of their points by going straight for the paint. Cameron Campbell was WSSU leading scorer with 12 points followed by Jon Hicklin with 11 points.

Morehouse will play again tomorrow against West Virginia State Union in the consolation game on the final day of the Chris Paul HBCU Tip-Off. Tip-off will be at 2pm on ESPN+.
