Opening Tip: The Maroon Tigers look to win their second game in a row after a thrilling 73-72 victory over Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. With the win, the Maroon Tigers improve their record to 8-8. With a win in Augusta, Georgia against Paine College on Monday, January 20th, Morehouse can avenge last year's tournament loss to the Lions.
Scouting MHC: Morehouse enters Monday 8-8 after a win against the Benedict Tigers that saw Senior guard Robert Andrews (Detroit, MI) lead the Maroon Tigers in scoring and rebounding, posting 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Malik Kennedy (Toronto Ontario, CAN) scored 18 points and made four three-point shots, with one of those being the game-winner that lifted the Maroon Tigers to victory in the final seconds. Freshman guard Julian Alexander (Atlanta, Georgia) contributed with 15 points and two rebounds while also making four threes of his own.
Scouting PC: The Lions have had a disappointing season, currently sitting at the bottom of the SIAC standings with a 1-13 record. Paine suffered their 12th double-digit loss after falling to Albany State 80-63 on Saturday. PC was led by freshman forward Jamal Hinkle (Augusta, GA), who scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and snagged one steal. Sophomore guard Charles Fairchild (Stone Mountain, GA) nearly had a double-double, posting 10 points and seven assists. Avenge Last Year's Loss: The Maroon Tigers seven-game win streak against the Lions ended last season with a close 53-49 SIAC Tournament loss to Paine College that sent the Maroon Tigers home for the year. This game is a chance for Morehouse to get revenge on the Lions for ruining the Maroon Tigers' championship aspirations.
