Tigers Beat Rams For Win Number 22

February 17, 2018 – ATLANTA – Tyrius Walker led three Maroon Tigers in double figures and Morehouse rolled to win number 22, with a 76-63 victory over the Albany State Golden Rams.

The fourth consecutive win, by the 22-1; 16-1 Maroon Tigers, solidifies Morehouse as the #1 team in the NCAA DII South Region.  

The Maroon Tigers held the recently-improved Golden Rams at bay in the first half, before pouring it on in the second. Morehouse led 35-34 at the half and out-scored the Rams 41-29, in the second period.

One of the game's biggest factors was the 39-20 bench-scoring advantage by the Maroon Tigers. Another was turnovers. The Tigers forced 14 turnovers, while committing only seven. Rebounds favored Morehouse, 38-35.  

Walker nearly matched his SIAC-leading scoring average (23.4 ppg), pouring in 22 points. Walker hit 7 of 15 from the floor and all six of his free throws. He also pulled down six rebounds and handed out three assists.

Jordan Wallace got into the double-digit scoring column, for the tenth time this season, with 12 points, to go with two rebounds. James Walker chipped in nine points and four rebounds.

After hitting double digits in the fourth game of the season, Michael Olmert has now posted three consecutive double-digit scoring games. Called on for more minutes, in the absence of the injured Martravious Little, Olmert hit 2 of 5 from the field and 7 of 8 from the line, for 12 points. He added four rebounds and two assists to an all-around solid game.

Newly-minted starters Tony Evans and Tremell Gooden made their presence felt, in the season's second win over Albany State. Evans hit 4 of 6 shots for eight points. Gooden recorded four points, five rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.

Omar Alston led the Tigers in rebounding, with seven boards, to go with two points.

Three Rams posted double figures. Tylen Walker put up 14 points, on 5 of 10 shooting. He added three rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Michael Green added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds, for Albany State, which slipped to 6-19; 6-11 SIAC.

Morehouse has a quick turnaround and will face the Fort Valley State Wildcats, Monday, at 7 p.m., at Forbes Arena.

The Fort Valley game is free and open to the public.  

After that, on Thursday, also at 7 p.m., will be the rematch with the Clark Atlanta Panthers. Morehouse defeated Clark Atlanta, 97-96, in triple overtime, February 8.
