Box Score February 18, 2017 – ATLANTA – Morehouse completed the season sweep of Claflin University, beating the Panthers 82-76.
In their last meeting two weeks ago, the Maroon Tigers beat the Panthers 87-84, in overtime, in Orangeburg (SC).
Tyrius Walker, who matched his career high of 33 points in Monday's overtime win versus Miles, picked up where he left off. The team leading scorer, tallied 27 points, shooting 9 of 15 from the floor and 9 of 11 from the free-throw line. Most of his free throws came late in the game, when the Panthers were forced to foul to stop the clock.
Martravious Little had another efficient game, pouring in 14 points, on 5 of 9 shooting and 3 of 4 from the charity stripe.
Jordan Wallace scored all 11 of his points in the second half, hitting 3 of 5 triples. Omar Alston posted seven points, six rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Michael Olmert chipped in eight points and a game-high nine assists. Ayinde Russell had an off scoring night, with six points, but contributed five rebounds and two steals.
Duby Maduegbunam tallied six points and six rebounds and Keyshaun Jacobs hit a key three down the stretch to extend the Morehouse lead.
Ryan McNeil-Moses led the way for Claflin, with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Jordan Jones scored 14 and Austin Lawton scored 10 for the Panthers, who slid to 16-8; 11-5 SIAC.
Claflin came into the game tied with Benedict for the best record in the SIAC. Benedict plays later tonight at Clark Atlanta.
Morehouse will play the final game of the regular season, Thursday, at 7 p.m., when the Paine College Lions roll into town. Morehouse beat Paine, 78-54, in Augusta (GA), January 23.
