Box Score February 13, 2017 – ATLANTA –Morehouse jumped out early and never looked back, in an 86-58 win over the Clark Atlanta Panthers.
The Maroon Tigers avenged a 71-66 loss to the Panthers, at their pad, two weeks ago, and regained bragging rights in the Atlanta University Center.
Four Tigers posted double figures, on the second-best shooting performance of the season.
At a nearly-packed-to-the-rafters Forbes Arena, the Maroon Tigers improved their record to 13-9; 7-7. played to the background of bands, DJ's and dancers. The Maroon Tigers hit all 10 of their free throws and the only place the game was close was in rebounds, 34-33, and in turnovers, 15-15.
Tyrius Walker came out of the gate firing and set the tempo for a double-digit lead that never waned. The team captain led the Morehouse scoring, hitting 11 of 15 shots, for a game-high 26 points.
Extending his streak of double-digit scoring to 12 game, Ayinde Russell was just as hot, with 21 points. His 5 of 9 shooting from the three-point line help Morehouse record a season-best .564 percentage. He also snagged five rebounds.
Duby Maduegbunam rebounded from a lackluster performance in his last game against the Panthers, putting up 17 points and grabbing six rebounds. Hitting three triples and throwing down two crowd-pleasing dunks, the sophomore from Boston helped erase the pain of his two points and four turnovers in the loss at CAU.
Jordan Wallace was nearly perfect from the floor, going 5 of 6 overall and 4 of 4 from beyond the arc, for 14 points.
Damien Davis scored 18 points and Lawrence Triplett hauled in a game-high 15 rebounds for the Panthers, who slipped to 14-11; 8-5 SIAC.
Morehouse returns to action Thursday, at 7 p.m., hosting the Miles College Golden Bears.
