Thorobreds Outrun Tigers in Shootout

Box Score January 5, 2016 -- ATLANTA -- The Maroon Tigers surrendered a 13-point second-half and lost, 86-83, to the Kentucky State Thorobreds.

It was the third straight loss for Morehouse, which slipped to 6-5.

The Maroon Tigers forged a 43-38 halftime lead and came out hot in the second half, extended the lead to 13 points. But the lead was short lived, as the Thorobreds improved their energy and shooting and closed the gap.

Martravious Little led the scoring for Morehouse, with 22 points, on 10 of 17 shooting from the field. Little, a junior guard from Wilkinson County (GA) added five rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes of play.

Tyrius Walker hit seven of his 15 shots, for 16 points. The team's leading scorer, Walker had an all-around solid game, adding 10 rebounds, to go with six assists, five steals and two blocked shots. 

Ayinde Russell, last season's freshman sensation, made every minute count in his third game of the seaon. Russel hit six of 12 shots, for 15 points, in only 16 minutes of action. He hit three of the team's five three-pointers.  

Duby Maduegbunam came up one rebound short of a double-double, putting up 14 points and hauling in nine rebounds.  

Reggie Breeden and Malcolm each posted 24 points for Kentucky State, which improved to 4-9; 3-3.

Barring a weather emergency, the Maroon Tigers will host the Central State University Marauders, Saturday, at 3 p.m. The Marauders play the Clark Atlanta Panthers tonight.
