Box Score December 31, 2016 – MEMPHIS – Ending the year on a sour note, the Maroon Tigers lost to the LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians, 73-70, in overtime.
The teams shot an identical 36.8 percent from the field, but the Magicians hit 19 of 21 free throws, compared to the Tigers' 9 of 14 shooting from the line.
Morehouse out-rebounded LeMoyne-Owen, 55-38, but failed to convert that advantage to a win and fell to 6-3; 1-1. LOC improved to 2-7, 1-1.
Tyrius Walker led Morehouse with 33 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
Duby Maduegbunam posted a double-double, with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Ayinde Russell, last season's leading scorer who was playing in his first game of this season, hit 6 of 13 shots and three free throws, for 16 points, to go with five rebounds.
Morehouse travels east on I-40 to Jackson, TN, for a rematch against the Lane College Dragons, Monday, at 3 p.m. (CST). The Tigers beat the Dragons, 80-74, at Forbes Arena, December 10.
The Tigers return home Thursday, at 7 p.m., to play the Kentucky State University Thorobreds. The next home game is Saturday, at 3 p.m. against the Central State University Marauders.
