Box Score January 25, 2016 – ATLANTA – For the third straight game, 20-plus points by Ayinde Russell has led the Maroon Tigers to victory. This time, Russell's 23 points powered Morehouse to a runaway 76-55 win over the Albany State Golden Rams.
Russell, who was just announced as last week's SIAC Newcomer of the Week, led all scorers, pouring in 14 first-half points, to go with four assists, three steals and two rebounds.
Morehouse improved to 9-5; 5-4. The 21-point margin of victory was the best since beating Fisk University by 41 points, in November.
After a three-pointer by Michael Scott, at the 14-minute mark, put Morehouse ahead 10-8, it was no contest. The Maroon Tigers poured it on, for a 47-20 halftime lead. The Tigers continued on cruise control in the second half and everyone in uniform got to play.
The Maroon Tigers forced 16 turnovers, while only committing 10 and won the rebounding battle 42-38.
Scott scored all of his nine points in the first half, on 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc.
Robert Askew scored nine of his 11 points in the first half and tied teammate Miodrag Minic for game-high honors, with nine rebounds. Minic barely missed his first double-double, putting up 10 points and adding three assists.
Javarius Gay chipped in eight points, four rebounds and two steals, and Michael Hall contributed six points and six rebounds.
Earl Farnum, with 10 points, was the only double-digit scorer for Albany State, which fell to 3-15; 3-9.
Next game for the Maroon Tigers is the much anticipated matchup with Clark Atlanta, Saturday, at 6 p.m., in Forbes Arena.
