Box Score January 2, 2016 – ATLANTA – Playing without three key players, Morehouse lost to the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians, 77-72.
Morehouse kept it close throughout, but suffered offensively, in the absence of all-conference players Tyrone Brown and Tyrius Walker and starter Omar Alston. Combined the three missing players average 24.3 points per game.
Javarius Gay came off the bench and led Morehouse in scoring with 18 points. Gay hit 5 of 8 from the field, including 4 of 7 from the three-point line. The senior from Urbana, IL sank all four of his free throws and hauled in four rebounds.
Robert Askew played in his first game of the season and posted a double-double. Askew, who started at center most of last season, had been recovering from a preseason ankle injury. He hit 6 of 10 shots, for 14 points, and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
Gerrell Dickson got his first start as a Maroon Tiger. The freshman from Orlando added eight points, two rebounds and two steals. Martravious Little and Ayinde Russell also chipped in eight points each. Freshman Anthony Farrar contributed seven points.
Morehouse shot only 37 percent from the floor and lost the rebounding battle 47-38. While committing only 10 turnovers of their own, the Maroon Tigers failed to capitilize on 14 LOC turnovers.
Justin Street led the way for the Magicians, who improved to 6-6 (3-0 SIAC). Street poured in a game-high 29 points, to go with 12 rebounds.
The Maroon Tigers fell to 5-3 (1-2 SIAC) and return to action Monday, at 7 p.m., when they host another SIAC West Division opponent, the Lane College Dragons.
