February 5, 2015 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers jumped out to a big early lead then held on for dear life to defeat the Albany State Golden Rams, 70-68.

After cruising to 38-30 halftime lead, the game seemed well in hand for the Tigers and nearly 1,000 fans who celebrated Residence Hall Association Night at Forbes Arena.

The lead ballooned to 16 points midway through the second half and victory seemed assured. But the turnover bug dislodged the cruise control button and the Maroon Tigers had to scratch and claw their way to a narrow win.

With the score tied at 68-all and the clock winding down under 30 seconds, Morehouse decided to go for the last shot with the ball in the hands of Tyrius Walker.

And as he has on several occasions in his first season, the freshman delivered. The Tigers spread the floor and the fearless and agile Walker beat his defender to the basket for the game-winning layup. The Rams inbounded the ball with four seconds left, but a desperations heave fell well short.

Walker scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second half. His game- and season-high six assists, to go with four rebounds, added up to an all-around stellar game.

Michael Hall was the only other Tiger in double figures. The transfer from Harvard hit 5 of 8 shots for 11 points. Austin Anderson had a productive 13 minutes, contributing nine points and three rebounds.

Robert Askew, with eight points and nine rebounds, and Tyrone Brown, with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds, were critical to Morehouse's 43-35 rebounding advantage. Johnathan Walker chipped in four points and four rebounds in limited playing time.

Morehouse rebounded from Monday's painful loss to the 1-17 Fort Valley Wildcats and improved to 12-8; 10-3. The Tigers still hold the #2 spot in the SIAC East.

Elijah Jordan and Darshtyn Baker scored 13 points apiece and Larry Bullock added 10 for the Golden Rams who dropped to 8-12; 4-9 SIAC. The Tigers and Rams will meet again in Albany, February 23.

The Maroon Tigers return to action, Monday, when they host the Claflin University Panthers. Morehouse beat Claflin 58-56, on a buzzer-beater, in Orangeburg, SC, January 24.
