Box Score Morehouse beat Fayetteville State, 66-59, winning a second straight game in the CIAA/SIAC Challenge and opening the season with consecutive wins for the first time in seven years.
The Maroon Tigers built a 15-point lead in the second half, gave back 13 points of it then held on to win.
Yesterday, Morehouse beat Johnson C. Smith 77-70. That win avenged a 61-60 loss to the Golden Bulls last year in the same tournament in Charlotte. Tuskegee beat Fayetteville State, Friday, and JCSU, today, giving the SIAC a clean sweep of the HBCU challenge.
Tyrius Walker led Morehouse in scoring. Walker scored 14 points, to go with four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The only other Tiger in double figures was Omar Alston who hit 5 of 7 shots, for 10 points. The highly recruited freshman from Waldorf, MD added seven rebounds and two steals. Alston bettered last night's performance, in which he scored six points and grabbed three rebounds.
Michael Hall had another solid game, scoring seven points and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
Freshmen Anthony Farrar, who scored 11 points in yesterday's win, chipped in seven points and three rebounds. Ayinde Russell, who had six points yesterday, contributed eight points, all in the second half.
Tyrone Brown posted six points and three rebounds. Miodrag Minic scored six points and snagged five rebounds.
Center Robert Askew did not play because of a sprained ankle.
Morehouse will play its home opener, Friday, at 7 p.m., against the Fisk University Bulldogs.
