Box Score January 10, 2015 – FAIRFIELD, AL – Tyrius Walker poured in a season-high 18 points and helped Morehouse extend its winning streak to four in a row, with a 70-61 win over the Miles College Golden Bears.
In the best streak since the 2012-13 season, Morehouse got balanced scoring and dominant rebounding against the Golden Bears 38-25. Ten of 11 Maroon Tigers scored and Morehouse out-rebounded Miles, 38-25.
Walker, who has taken over the team scoring lead at 10.8 ppg, scored 12 of his points in the second half. He sank 6 of 6 free throws and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Walker's second half scoring fueled a Maroon Tigers' surge that extended their 34-32 lead to as many as 11 points.
Javarius Gay hit the games first two shots, to give the Maroon Tigers a lead they maintained, except for a brief run by the Golden Bears to start the second half.
Gay, the only other Maroon Tiger in double figures, hit 3 of 5 shots from the field and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line, to tally 10 points, to go with five rebounds.
Adding to the outstanding guard play, Martravious Little had his best game of the season. The freshman hit 2 of 2 from the field and 4 of 4 from the line. Austin Anderson chipped in eight points.
Newcomer Rasheed Shofidiya, who has been seeing more playing time lately, add five points and five rebounds.
Center Robert Askew posted a game-high seven rebounds and six points, before, fouling out.
Three Golden Bears scored in double figures, led by Maiscei Grier, with 19 points and Nahum Lockett, with 15.
Morehouse improved to 6-5 (4-0 SIAC). Miles fell to 1-10 (0-4 SIAC).
The Maroon Tigers will stay on the road, travelling to Memphis, to face the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians, Monday, at 7:30 p.m.
