Thorobreds Outrun Maroon Tigers

January 16, 2014 – FRANKFORT, KY – The Maroon Tigers fell behind early and never recovered against the Kentucky State Thorobreds who won 89-79.

Hitting five of their nine three pointers, KSU shot 61 percent in the first half and took a 49-33 lead into the locker room. The Thorobreds extended the lead to 22 points in the second period and held on to avenge a 66-65 loss to Morehouse in last season's SIAC tournament quarterfinals.

The Maroon Tigers who also beat the Thorobreds in the regular season last year, staged a late comeback but could only get within nine points before time expired.

Three Maroon Tigers carried the Morehouse scoring load. Darrius Williams scored a game- and season-high 32 points, Austin Anderson poured in 24 points and Joshua Simmons added 13 points.

Robert Askew chipped in nine points, to go with a team-high eight rebounds, as Morehouse dropped to 5-9 (2-4 SIAC).

Four Thorobreds recorded double figures, led by Antonio Sullivan, with 22 points. KSU improved to 4-8 (3-4 SIAC).

Morehouse returns to action, Monday, at 7:30 p.m., when the Claflin University Panthers visit Forbes Arena.
