Morehouse Walks Down Lane

Box Score January 13, 2014 – ATLANTA – Darrius Williams torched the Dragons for 26 points, as Morehouse beat Lane College, 64-57, for the first home court win of the new year.


Lane jumped out to an early, seven-point lead, on the strength of deft inside passes and layups. The Maroon Tigers closed down the lane and shot their way to a 37-34 advantage at halftime.


In the second half, Morehouse tightened up defensively and reduced the Dragons' shooting percentage from 54 percent to 29 percent.

Despite dressing only eight players, Morehouse never seemed threatened by the Jackson, TN-based Dragons.


Williams did most of his damage in the paint, against a Dragons' lineup whose tallest player was 6'-6." Williams repeatedly whirled and twirled his way through the lane, hitting 10 of 15 shots and 5 of 10 free throws. He also collected seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.


Robert Askew and David Buchannon had 10 points apiece.


For the second game in a row, Joshua Simmons led the team in rebounding, with a game-high nine boards, to go with six points.


Four Dragons reached double figures, led by Sha'Mar Nolen, with 15 points. Lane fell to 2-7 (1-5 SIAC).


Morehouse, which improved to 5-8 (2-3 SIAC), will travel to Kentucky, Thursday, to face the K-State Thorobreds.
