January 5, 2013 – ATLANTA – In their first conference game of the season, the Maroon Tigers were more than up to the task, putting a 79-51 whipping on the Tuskegee Golden Tigers.
Picking up where they left off last year – a 92-58 win over Concordia College-Selma – the Maroon Tigers led from start to finish and outrebounded the visitors 41-29.
Five Maroon Tigers scored in double figures, led by Shawn Allen, with 20 points. Allen hit 7-of-12 shots from the field, 6-of-9 from the line and added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Morehouse used hot shooting and pressure defense to build a 33-25 halftime lead then increased the heat in the second half, outscoring Tuskegee 46-26.
Andrae Nelson recorded his first double-double of the season, with 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, to go with four assists and four blocked shots.
Darrius Williams, Morehouse's leading scorer, poured in 14 points and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Jonathan Tassin scored a season-high 12 points and Austin Anderson added 10.
Though not big in the scoring department (2 pts.), Cornez Nesbitt made a major contribution, with seven rebounds, a game-high five assists and two steals.
Richard Dixon led Tuskegee with 11 points.
Morehouse has won its last two games by a combined 62 points and improved to 3-5 (1-0 SIAC). Tuskegee fell to 2-9 (1-1 SIAC).
