Maroon Tigers Down Dragons For Sixth Straight Win

Box Score January 14, 2013 – JACKSON, TN – Jonathan Tassin and Darrius Williams combined for 45 points and lit up the Dragons of Lane College, pushing Morehouse to an 81-75 victory and the Maroon Tigers' sixth consecutive win.
 
Tassin hit 9-of-11 shots, including 5-of-6 three-pointers, for 23 points, to go with two rebounds and two steals.
 
Williams sank 10-of-15 shots and two free throws, for 22 points, and hauled in six rebounds.
 
After falling behind by eight points in the first half, the Maroon Tigers rallied for a 38-31 halftime lead. A Tassin three-pointer off of a feed by Malcolm Frank broke a 31-all tie and put Morehouse up for good.
 
The Tigers sprinted to an 18-point lead in the second half, but surrendered two-thirds of that to the surging Dragons who scored 14 points off of 10 Morehouse turnovers.
 
Shawn Allen, last week's SIAC Player of the Week, recorded his fourth double-double of the season, with 14 points and 12 rebounds. And Andrae Nelson came close to a double-double, with 11 points and nine rebounds. The pair's 21 rebounds helped Morehouse to a 41-31 rebound advantage.
 
Ashton Alexander, with 20 points, and Sha'Mar Nolen, with 14 points, led the Dragons, who fell to 1-9 (0-6 SIAC).
 
Morehouse rose to 7-5 and remains unbeaten in the SIAC, at 5-0, and in first place in the Eastern Division. This is the first time that Morehouse has been two games above .500 since the start of the 2008-09 season.
 
The Morehouse winning streak has been marked by a more than 10 percent improvement in shooting from the field, from .433 to .543. In addition to the team shooting improvement, the Tigers have been led in scoring by five different players during the streak.
 
Morehouse returns to Forbes Arena, Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., to face the Kentucky State Thorobreds.
