Maroon Tigers Swat Hornets

| By:

December 10, 2012 -- The Maroon Tigers jumped to an early lead and turned up the pressure the rest of the way, winning 92-58 over the winless Concordia College-Selma Hornets.

Five Tigers scored in double figures, as Morehouse secured its first home win and ended 2012 on a winning note.

The 32-point blowout was the largest margin of victory since the 84-53 win over Tuskegee in December 2005.

Morehouse built a 42-27 halftime lead, mostly on the shooting of Austin Anderson, who scored 10 of his game-high 17 points and Jonathan Tassin, who scored all of his 11 points in the first half.

It didn't matter that the Tigers were out-rebounded 42-36, as they moved the ball well, shooting a season-best 58 percent and picking up a season-high 25 assists.

Darrius Williams hit 7-of-7 shots and 2-of-3 free throws for 16 points, to go with four assists and a rebound.

Starting his second game of the season, Raphael Walker played a solid 15 minutes, hitting 5-of-6 shots, for 10 points, and handing out 2 assists.

Despite not starting, Shawn Allen made his presence felt, with a 10-point, six-rebound, four-steal and three-assist effort off the bench.

Cornez Nesbitt failed to score, but contributed eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Andrae Nelson chipped in four points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Zannie Pickens was the big man for the Hornets, with a team-high 13 points and game-high 15 rebounds. Concordia dropped to 0-8, on the season.

Morehouse, which improved to 2-5, will take a break, until January 5, at 3:30 p.m., when the Tuskegee Golden Tigers visit Forbes Arena.
