December 1, 2011 -- ORANGEBURG, SC – The Maroon Tigers let a 14-point lead and their second straight conference win slip through their paws, and lost 85-78 to the Claflin University Panthers.
Four Maroon Tigers scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough against the Panthers who forced 15 turnovers and hit 21-of-26 free throws in the second half.
Morehouse took care of the ball, hit 58 percent from the field and built an 11-point lead, in the first half.
Claflin cut the lead to 38-33 at halftime.
The Maroon Tigers came out strong to start the second half and pulled ahead by 14 points, before the collapse that saw them outscored 52-31, in the final 16 minutes.
The Panthers converted 24 Morehouse turnovers into 28 points, compared to 16 Claflin turnovers that yielded 19 points for the Maroon Tigers.
The Morehouse scoring was a repeat of the balanced scoring in Tuesday's win over Stillman, though with a different result this time.
Mario Farris led Morehouse in scoring with 19 points, to go with eight rebounds and four assists.
Daniyal Faquir hit 5-of-7 three pointers and two free throws, to finish with 17 points.
Shawn Allen and Andrae Nelson each scored 15 points and Allen had a game-high eight rebounds.
Four Panthers scored in double figures, led by David Glover, with 24 points.
The loss drops Morehouse to 1-3 (1-1 SIAC). Claflin improved to 2-3 (1-0 SIAC).
The Maroon Tigers return to Forbes Arena for a 3 p.m. game against the Miles Golden Bears, Saturday.
