January 3, 2011 – AUGUSTA, GA – The first game of 2011 was unkind to the Maroon Tigers who fell 72-55 to the Paine College Lions.
Morehouse kept it close in the first half and trailed 29-26 at the break. Things fell apart in the second half, as the Lions outscored the Tigers 43-29.
Morehouse drops to 1-5.
Christopher Clarke led the way for the Tigers with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Clarke hit 8-of-12 free throws, to go with two blocked shots.
Roderick Williams also had a big game, with 16 points, on 7-of-11 shooting. The senior captain added eight rebounds.
Jelani Figures chipped in eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
Four Lions scored in double figures, led by Mario Jordan with 23 points. Paine improved to 3-5.
Morehouse returns home Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., to face the Miles College Golden
Bears. The Tigers will try to avenge a 78-64 loss to the Bears, on December 4.
