Morehouse College golfer
Jaelon "J.T." Ridley has been named to the fourth cohort of Dr. Charles L. Sifford Scholarship recipients, the Sifford Scholarship Committee announced Monday.
Ridley, who recently completed his first season with the Maroon Tigers, was selected as one of 12 students from a competitive pool of applicants representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country.
Head Coach Edgar Evans commented, "To say that I am proud of Jalen would be an understatement. We place a tremendous emphasis on academics within our golf program, and seeing the fruits of that commitment is incredibly rewarding. Jalen has worked tirelessby both in the classroom and on the golf course, and this recognition is a testament to his discipline, character, and dedication. Achievements like this reinforce the standard, we strive for as a program and demonstrate what is possible when student-athletes fully embrace excellence in every area of their lives."
The Sifford Scholarship Fund was established in 2022 in honor of Dr. Charles "Charlie" L. Sifford, the first Black golfer to earn a PGA Tour card in 1961. The fund was created to help cover tuition expenses for HBCU students and students enrolled in accredited PGA of America golf management programs.

Sifford Scholarship cohort is a tremendous honor, and it speaks to J.T.'s character, promise and commitment both as a student and as a member of our golf program. Dr. Sifford's legacy opened doors for generations of Black golfers, and it is meaningful to see a Morehouse Man connected to a scholarship that continues that work by investing in HBCU students and the future of the game."
The Cobbs Creek Foundation serves as the fiscal sponsor of the Dr. Charles L. Sifford Scholarship. From its founding in 1916, Cobbs Creek has embraced both Black and women golfers and served as the home course to Dr. Sifford during the time he was a resident of Philadelphia.
