WEST PALM BEACH, FL | Morehouse golf delivered one of its strongest national-stage performances of the season at the 2026 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship, finishing second overall in the Men's Division II Team Division and closing as the top HBCU in the NCAA Division II field at The Park in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Maroon Tigers posted rounds of 296, 307 and 301 for a three-day total of 904 (+52), finishing behind only Western New Mexico, which won the division at 890 (+38). Morehouse finished five strokes ahead of Texas A&M International and Kentucky State, who tied for third at 909 (+57).
Morehouse opened the tournament with the best round in the Division II team field, firing a 296 on Monday to grab the first-round lead. Sophomore J.D. Cunningham set the tone early, carding a 3-under 68 with five birdies against two bogeys to share the opening-round individual lead with Western New Mexico's Jacob Alcorta. Cunningham's round helped Morehouse open a three-shot lead after day one.
The Maroon Tigers remained in contention through Tuesday's second round. Morehouse followed its opening 296 with a 307, staying within striking distance entering the final day as Western New Mexico moved in front by five shots after 36 holes.
In Wednesday's final round, Morehouse closed with a 301 to secure runner-up honors. The Maroon Tigers placed three golfers inside the individual top 10, led by Cunningham, who finished tied for fifth at 223 (+10) after rounds of 68, 77 and 78. Miles Richardson made one of the biggest final-round moves for Morehouse, firing an even-par 70 to finish tied for seventh at 224 (+11). Izaiah Stewart also delivered a top-10 finish, placing ninth at 225 (+12) with rounds of 74, 73 and 78.
Morehouse's balanced performance was the story of the week. The Maroon Tigers were the only team besides champion Western New Mexico to finish inside the top two, and their runner-up showing placed them ahead of multiple HBCU and NCAA Division II programs in the field, including Kentucky State, Chaminade and Livingstone.
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship, formerly known as the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship, is one of the premier national championship platforms for golf programs and student-athletes from HBCUs, Hispanic-Serving Institutions and other Minority-Serving Institutions. The 2026 championship featured five divisions, including Men's Division I, Men's Division II, Women's Team, Men's Individual and Women's Individual.
For Morehouse, the finish represented another step forward for a program building momentum under head coach Edgar Evans Jr. The Maroon Tigers led after day one, stayed in the championship hunt through 36 holes and closed the week with three individual top-10 finishers — a national-stage performance that reflected both the team's growth and its competitive ceiling.
