ATLANTA, GA | They may be young but they are ready. This is the motto assigned to the Morehouse Golf Team. Despite their youth, the Morehouse Golf Team made tremendous strides in the 2024-25 season. The Maroon Tigers capped the season off with a 4th place finish in the SIAC tournament. They also improved their tournament score by 116 strokes compared to 2024. Here are some of the highlights from the season:
Spring 2025 Tiger Invitational (Mar. 10-11)
Savannah, Georgia – Our Maroon Tigers battled the cold and rain to finish in 4
th Place at the Tiger Invitational. Originally scheduled for a 54-hole event the tournament, it changed to a 36-hole event after torrential rain during the first round. Tyler Stackhouse of (Antioch, Illinois) and J.D. Cunningham of (Halifax, VA) led the way with 2 top 10 finishes individually. (8
th and 9
th place respectively).

Tunica, Mississippi -- The Maroon Tigers won their 1
st golf tournament in the Edgar Evans Jr. era! The team battled very cold temperatures in the first round to pull it through. They were led by J.D. Cunningham of (Halifax, Virginia) who had a 2
nd place individual finish. Evans stated "We are very proud of our young men for embracing this opportunity and succeeding."

SIAC Championship (Apr. 21-23)
Parris, KY -- As the team arrived in rainy Kentucky, they were optimistic of their chances of winning a title. On Day 1 Morehouse was in the first wave of golfers teeing off at 9:00am. Temperatures were cold, rainy, and windy. Joel (JD) Cunningham of Halifax, Virginia stated, "Even though the conditions are poor everyone has to play in them."

The Maroon Tigers struggled on Day 1 posting a higher than their season average score putting them in 4
th place out of 7 teams. On Day 2 the team played much better and increased the margin between 4
th and 5
th placed Savannah State. Jeremiah Austin of Brunswick, Georgia stated, "I am starting to figure out this golf course, I can't wait tomorrow to get back out here and go low."
Coach Evans had a strong message for his team entering the final round of the tournament. He emphasized playing confidently and learning for the future. Even though the team wouldn't win this tournament, preparation for 2026 started now.
On Day 3 the team got the message and shot a team score of 318. Leading the way on Day 3 was Joel (JD) Cunningham with a score of 75. The Maroon Tigers finished the SIAC tournament in 4
th place. (Out of 7 schools respectively) They also improved their tournament score by 116 strokes compared to 2024. Over the summer they will focus on development, improving their facilities, and welcoming their new recruits. The Maroon Tigers have a very bright future.
