Morehouse Announces Change In Football Leadership

| By:
ATLANTA, GA | Morehouse College has announced changes to its football leadership with the departure of head football coach Terance Mathis and offensive line coach Bob Whitfield. In two seasons at Morehouse, the Maroon Tigers were 4-16 (4-12 SIAC) under Mathis' leadership.

In a statement to the campus community, Director of Athletics, Harold Ellis '92, said the moves are part of a broader effort to "shape a bright and promising future for Morehouse Athletics" and to realign the department around a vision of "competitive excellence" on and off the field.

"The gentlemen have served with enthusiasm throughout their time at Morehouse, and we wish each of them the very best in their next endeavors," Ellis said. "We are committed to strengthening our programs and creating an environment where our student-athletes and staff alike can thrive, personally and professionally," he noted.

While the search for permanent leadership begins, Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator George Copeland has been appointed interim head football coach, and  Football General Manager, Allen Edwards will serve as director of football operations.

Ellis closed with, "We will remain true to growth and improvement as we enter this next chapter for Morehouse Athletics." For up-to-date athletic information on the Maroon Tigers, follow them on social media or online at www.morehouseathletics.com or Maroon Tiger football on Instagram @morehousefootball.
