ATLANTA, GA | Caleb Grant has been named the SIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in the 2024 season. Grant was rewarded, with the honor, for his effort against Clark-Atlanta University, in the Battle of the Big Cats, this past Saturday. Grant previously won the award week three, for his performance against the Howard Bison.
Grant led the Maroon Tigers in tackles in the contest with nine (eight solo), including a sack resulting in a seven-yard loss. Early in the 4th quarter, Grant would intercept a pass from Panther quarterback, David Wright, III, at his own 35-yard line, and proceed to cut to the sideline, running 65 yards to pay-dirt, to complete the pick-six for the Maroon Tigers. Despite the effort, the Maroon Tigers would go on to lose the match against Panthers, who, with the victory and a Fort Valley State loss, secured a spot in the SIAC Championship game.
On the season, Grant led the Maroon Tigers in tackles with 81 and 9.5 sacks. Grant led the SIAC in tackles-for-loss with 14.5, resulting in 74 yards of loss ground for Maroon Tiger opponents. Grant's 81 tackles rank third in the SIAC and his 9.5 sacks are second in the conference.
Post-season awards will be announced this week by the SIAC. Grant, along with other Maroon Tigers, will look to see where they rank among their peers. For up-to-date athletic information on the Maroon Tigers and the upcoming basketball season, follow them on social media or online at
