Box Score February 23, 2017 – ATLANTA – Morehouse finished off the regular season, with an 89-59 win over the Paine College Lions.
The margin of victory was the largest this season and similar to the 78-54 win over the Lions, January 23, in Augusta, GA. Paine slipped to 2-23; 0-16.
A blowout from start to finish, the game allowed head coach Grady L. Brewer to award playing time to all the reserves in preparation for the upcoming SIAC tournament.
Five Maroon Tigers posted double figures. Martravious Little led the way with a game-high 18 points and three rebounds.
Keyshaun Jacobs had a season-high 16 points. Playing a full 20 minutes -- the most this season -- the freshman from Lynn, Mass., far surpassed his six-minute average. He made the most of every minute, hitting 6 of 10 shots, including four triples.
Duby Maduegbunam hit 5 of 8 shots for 15 points, to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Jordan Wallace poured in 15 points and grabbed three rebounds.
Playing only half of his usual 34 minutes, team captain and leading scorer Tyrius Walker his 5 of 8 shots, for 11 points. He added five rebounds and five assists.
Tremell Gooden played triple his usual five minutes. The freshman from Atlanta, who also plays wide receiver on the football team, contributed five points, five rebounds and two assists.
Michael Olmert failed to score, but grabbed seven rebounds and handed out five assists. Omar Alston and Kivon Taylor each added two points and six rebounds. Alston handed out six assists.
Kaderious Compton led the way for the Lions, with 17 points and four rebounds. Jerrod Blount chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and two steals and Malcolm Whittington added 13 points and two steals.
In the first NCAA regional poll of the season released yesterday, the Maroon Tigers have been ranked as the #9 seed in the South Region. The Maroon Tigers are the only SIAC team to be honored with a regional ranking.
The SIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament will he held February 27 through March 4, at the Bill Harris Arena, in Birmingham, AL.
At 16-9; 10-7 SIAC, Morehouse enters the tournament as the #4 East seed and will play the #5 West seed Tuskegee Golden Tigers, Monday at 4:45 p.m. (CST)
