Second-Half Collapse Dooms Maroon Tigers

Box Score

October 14, 2017 – ALBANY, GA – The Maroon Tigers held their own, and the lead, until just after halftime, then surrendered 25 unanswered points in the second half and lost, 34-10, to the Albany State Golden Rams, at their Homecoming.

The only Morehouse points came on a 35-yard field goal by Fernando Sdelamora and a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown, by Cameron Miller, which gave the Tigers a 10-9 halftime lead.

Morehouse's SIAC-leading defense held the Golden Rams to a paltry 71 yards in the first half. The Golden Rams scored on a 57-yard interception of a Kivon Taylor pass, which was returned for a touchdown, less than three minutes into the game

The second Rams' score came on a safety, at the start of the second half. With their backs against their own goal line, the Maroon Tigers were forced to punt, but the snap sailed over the head of Alex Gonzalez and through the back of the end zone.

In the second half, the Tigers' defense was nearly as stout, except for a couple of big plays. Rams' touchdown runs of 49 and 73 yards marred an otherwise outstanding performance by the Tigers' Dee.

Two of the Rams' scores, both in the fourth quarter, followed Maroon Tigers' fumbles on the Morehouse half of the field.

Bundrea Conway spearheaded a Morehouse defense that produced six sacks and nine tackles for loss. Conway posted two of the TFL's and one-and-a-half sacks. Kenneth Hagins had eight tackles. David Smith had seven tackles, and a sack. Treyvon Luckey posted six tackles and Kamari Jones-Hunter collected one-and-a-half sacks.

Of Morehouse's 180 yards of offense, 168 came via the pass. Santo Dunn led the receiving corps, with five catches for 58 yards, to go with 15 rushing yards. The versatile freshman speedster compiled 159 all-purpose yards, which included a 42-yard kickoff return.

Frank Bailey, who gained 34 yards on 11 carries, caught five passes, out of the backfield. Ryan Edwards caught two balls for 49 yards. One went for 33 yards. Trevor Gichaba hauled in two passes for 16 yards.

Kicker Alex Gonzalez had a busy day with seven punts and three kickoffs. Gonzalez had his first rush of the season, when he faked a punt and ran the ball for three yards and a first down.

Morehouse dropped to 3-4;1-2 and returns home for the Homecoming matchup against Benedict, Saturday, at 2 p.m.
