Walker's 31 Points Sink Tuskegee

Box Score

December 3, 2016 – ATLANTA – Tyrius Walker poured in a career-high 31 points and Morehouse downed the Tuskegee Golden Tigers, 64-52.

Walker, a junior guard from Atlanta's Grady High School, hit 8 of 17 shots from the field and 13 of 15 free throws. Walker scored 20 of his points in the second half and was a huge part of the 18-3 run that the Maroon Tigers used to overcome a 27-22 halftime deficit.

Minutes later, Tuskegee went on a 9-2 run, to cut the Morehouse lead to three points, but Walker hit two free throws and a three-pointer and Duby Maduegbunam threw down a dunk and Morehouse regained a double-digit lead.

Last week's SIAC Player of the Week, Walker added nine steals, six rebounds and a block to his impressive totals and is a likely candidate to repeat the weekly honor. His previous high was 24 points, achieved three times in the 2014-15 season.

In the first conference game for both teams, Morehouse improved to 5-2; 1-0, and is on a three-game win streak; Tuskegee remains winless at 0-8; 0-1.

Tuskegee outshot (47% - 35%) and outrebounded (41-28) Morehouse, but the Maroon Tigers won the game on the defensive end, forcing 31 turnovers and converting those miscues into 32 points. The Maroon Tigers matched their season low of nine turnovers.

Duby Maduegbunam, the only other Maroon Tigers in double figures, scored seven on his 11 points in the second half and added three rebounds.

Omar Alston barely missed a second double-double of the season. The 6-6 forward hit 4 of 7 shots, for nine points, and hauled down a game-high 11 rebounds, to go with three blocks.

Martravious Little chipped in six points, four assists and three steals.

Jordan Wallace came off the bench for five points.

Three Golden Tigers posted double figures, led by James Eads with 22. Travis Flagg scored 17 points and Alex Perry added 12.

Morehouse returns to action, Saturday, at 3 p.m., against the Lane College Lions.
