Box Score November 5, 2016 – JACKSON, TN -- Morehouse ended the season on a high note, beating the Lane College Dragons, 24-21, and breaking a seven-game losing streak.
The win was sweet on a number of levels. In addition to ending this season's futility, it was the first road win in more than two years and came against three former Morehouse coaches. David Hart, Brandon Houston and Shepherd Skanes, left Morehouse for Lane at the end of last season.
Morehouse improved to 3-7; 2-5. Lane dropped to 5-5; 3-4.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Dragons got on the board first, with a 15-yard touchdown run, at the 9:44 mark of the second quarter.
Morehouse bounced back two minutes later, when Monqavious Johnson hit Amyr Smith with a five-yard scoring pass.
The Dragons rallied on an eight-play, 67-yard drive that ended with a two-yard rushing touchdown, which gave Lane a 14-7 halftime lead.
Alexis Gonzalez hit a 21-yard field goal, to put Morehouse up for good, at 17-14. Morehouse did all the third-quarter scoring. Kivon Taylor, subbing for Johnson at quarterback, ran it in from the four-yard line, to tie it up.
The Maroon Tigers extended their lead, midway through the fourth quarter, on a four-yard scoring pass from Taylor to DeAndre Parks.
Lane tacked on a too-little-too-late 33-yard rushing touchdown, with two minutes left in the game.
