Maroon Tigers Vanquish Dragons

January 4, 2016 – ATLANTA – Robert Askew and Michael Scott combined for 41 and 18 rebounds, as the Maroon Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak, with an 83-70 win over the Lane College Dragons.

Scott poured in 21 points, on 6 of 11 shooting from beyond the arc. The junior guard from Gaithersburg, MD, added six rebounds, two assists and two steals, in one of his best games as a Maroon Tiger.

In only his second game of the season, since returning from an ankle injury, Askew posted his second double-double. The senior center from Augusta, GA poured in 20 points and hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds, to go with three assists, two blocked shots and two steals.   

A basket by Askew at the nine minute mark of the first half gave the Maroon Tigers a lead they never surrendered. After a 39-26 halftime lead, the Maroon Tigers held the Dragons to 31 percent shooting in the second half.

Javarius Gay follow up a 18-point, four-rebound performance in Saturday's loss, with another strong game. The senior guard collected 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Freshman guard Anthony Farrar had another solid game, with 10 points, four assists and three steals.  

Senior forward Miodrag Minic contributed four points and eight rebounds and junior center Michael Hall chipped in five points and five rebounds.

For the second straight game, Morehouse played without leading scorer and All-SIAC honoree Tyrius Walker who is awaiting an academic eligibililty decision. All-conference selection Tyrone Brown returned to the bench after missing Saturday's game, but did not play. Standout freshman Omar Alston also missed a second straight game.  

Morehouse, which suffered losses to Georgia College to end the year and LeMoyne-Owen to start the year, improved to 6-3; 2-2.

Lane, which entered on a two-game win streak, including a 95-58 drubbing of Clark Atlanta, Saturday, fell to 7-8; 3-2.

Kendarius Ash led three Dragons in scoring and rebounding, with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Maroon Tigers will hit the road for four games, beginning Thursday, in Frankfort, KY. They return home January 21, at 7 p.m., to face the Spring Hill College Badgers.
