Thomas Williams runs for one of his three touchdowns

September 28, 2013 – ATLANTA – Running back Thomas Williams rushed for a career high three touchdowns, to help give Morehouse a 28-5 halftime lead. But the Maroon Tigers had to hold on for dear life in the second half, as Edward Waters scored 21 unanswered points to force a final score of 28-26.

The EWC Tigers had the ball on the Morehouse side of the field with 22 seconds remaining, but an interception by Joshua Anderson halted the drive and the Maroon Tigers ran out the clock.

It was second big defensive play by Anderson who stifled a third quarter drive by the visiting Tigers, with an interception in the end zone. He collected eight tackles.

Williams scored on rushes of 15, 34 and 54 yards and finished the game with 118 rushing yards on 10 carries. That combined with three kickoff returns for 60 yards and a 20-yard pass reception gave Williams 198 All-Purpose yards on the day.

Williams followed up his strong performance in last week's game where he returned a 90-yard kickoff for a touchdown and was named the SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Devon Mann scored the other Morehouse touchdown, on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Joshua Harris. Mann has caught five touchdown passes in the last three games. His 74-yarder against Central State ranks fifth all-time in Morehouse history for longest touchdown receptions. His 97-yard TD reception against Fort Valley last season is #1 all-time.

Winston Bodrick had his best game as a Maroon Tiger, with 94 yards on 17 carries. His long run of 42 yards in the fourth quarter gave Morehouse 1st and 10, at the EWC 4-yard line and a chance to put the game away. But two plays later a bad snap over the head of quarterback Joshua Harris was recovered by EWC's Marquis Davis, who returned it 70 yards, to set up the final touchdown in the Tigers' rally. Edward Waters scored on rushing touchdowns of 5 and 17 yards and a 22-yard pass completion, all in the fourth quarter.

Kyle Poag led all tacklers with 12 stops. Lance White was close behind with 11. Clarence Christian had 8 tackles, including a sack and two tackles-for-loss.

Morehouse evened its record at 2-2 and will play Clark Atlanta next week at home.
