October 5, 2013 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers surrendered 445 yards, while gaining a season low 177 yards and lost to the Clark Atlanta Panthers 21-17.
With the first loss to the Panthers since 2008, the Maroon Tigers also surrendered bragging rights to their cross-campus rivals who entered the game winless.
Thomas Williams led Morehouse in rushing with 75 yards and a touchdown. Shelton Hamilton rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown.
Monqavious Johnson, who relieved starter Joshua Harris early in the first quarter, completed 8-of-15 passes for 70 yards. Johnson was sacked twice; Harris was sacked once.
CAU Freshman Montavious Taylor gashed the Maroon Tigers for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns. His second, a 9-yarder with 4:25 remaining in the fourth, iced the game for the Panthers. His teammate Bradley Battles rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown.
Panther quarterback Earl Trenton completed 12-of-16 passes, for 157 yards. He was sacked once.
Five Tigers recorded double-digit tackles, led by Lance White, with 15. Joshua Thurston had 13 tackles, Christopher Hambie picked up 12, Clarence Christian and Austin Benton collected 11 each.
Morehouse travels to Columbus, GA, Saturday at 2 p.m., to face the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers.
