October 12, 2013 – COLUMBUS, GA – Two fumbles, an interception and a blocked punt resulted in four Tuskegee touchdowns and a 33-3 halftime deficit that the Maroon Tigers could not overcome.
It didn't get much better in the second half, as the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers rolled to a 54-10 win, at the 78th Annual Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic.
Morehouse collected only 278 yards of offense, while giving up a season-high 598 yards. It was the worst Morehouse loss since the 55-21 shellacking by Winston-Salem State last year in the Cleveland Classic.
The lone bright spots in the first half were a Hector Solis 23-yard field goal and a fake punt by Temitayo Agoro, which he ran for 41 yards and a first down.
Agoro's lone run made him the second leading Maroon Tiger rusher, behind Shelton Hamilton who gained 59 yards on 18 carries.
In the second half, the Maroon Tigers rallied early for their only touchdown, to close the gap to 33-10.
Backup quarterback Jordan Tarver connected with Don Cox, for a 22-yard touchdown pass that capped a 14-play, 80-yard drive.
Tarver, who was 9-of-21 for 99 yards, entered the game, when starting quarterback Monqavious Johnson aggravated a foot injury he suffered three weeks ago. Johnson completed 5-of-8 passes for 58 yards.
The rally was short-lived. Tuskegee bounced right back on the ensuing possession, with a 72-yard drive that ended on an 18-yard touchdown run by Hoderick Lowe, his third rushing touchdown of the day.
Cox, who caught four passes for 63 yards, was Morehouse's leading receiver. Devon caught three passes for 38 yards and Lance McGuffie hauled in three passes for 31 yards.
Morehouse travels to Albany State, Saturday, at 2 p.m., to face the Golden Rams, at their homecoming.
