Carter, Washington Win SIAC Player of Week Honors
September 11, 2012 – ATLANTA – Morehouse running back David Carter and offensive lineman Richard Washington were voted the SIAC's Offensive Player and Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Carter, who had a record-breaking romp in the 39-18 win over the Edward Waters College Tigers, Saturday, became the Morehouse Career Rushing leader, with 208 yards and three touchdowns.
Washington, a first-year transfer from Pasadena (CA) Community College, earned the POW honor in only his second game as a Maroon Tiger. He was a key blocker and pass protector on the front line that helped the Maroon Tigers amass 444 yards of total offense.
Washington and his line mates didn't allow a sack and Morehouse converted 10-of-16 third-downs and 2-of-2 fourth-down chances, while scoring on 6-of-7 trips into the Red Zone.
Big Rich, as the 6'-8” 330-pounder is called, also recovered a Morehouse fumble and advanced it 14 yards for a first down, late in the first half.
Washington is the second Maroon Tiger this season to take home the offensive line honor. Marlon Jones won the award last week against the Howard Bison.
Entering the EWC game, Carter needed only 30 yards to eclipse the 3,669 yard mark, set by John David Washington, from 2002-2005. Carter was already the Morehouse single game, single season, touchdown and scoring leader. He now stands at 3,848 yards and continues to add to his records every game.
