February 15, 2012 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers overcame a 12-point second-half deficit and beat the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians, 56-53, on clutch shooting in the game's final seconds.
The winning shot was a turnaround jumper over two defenders by Andrae Nelson with 18 seconds remaining, which put the Maroon Tigers ahead, 54-53, for the first time in the second half.
The pass to Nelson into the post came from Shawn Allen who had a spectacular second half. After going scoreless in the first half, Allen scored five of his 11 total points in the last five minutes of the game.
On the ensuing Magicians' possession, Allen, who also had five rebounds, forced an offensive foul and turnover, by one of LOC's best scorers.
Forced to foul, the Magicians sent Daniyal Faquir to the line and the SIAC's third best free-throw shooter twice hit nothing but net, to put the game on ice.
Faquir finished with a game-high 16 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Nelson hit 6-of-13 shots for 15 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Michael Zeigler had a standout game, on both ends of the court. His 10 points were his Morehouse high and his steal with two seconds remaining prevented a final Magicians' possession.
Edwin Shorter's 11 points led the Magicians, who came into Forbes at 13-8, overall, and in first place in the SIAC, at 13-6.
The win was Morehouse's second over LOC this season and improved the Maroon Tigers to 7-16 (7-14 SIAC).
Morehouse will play its final home game of the season, Monday, at 7:30 p.m., against the Benedict Tigers.
