November 17, 2012 -- CARROLLTON, GA -- Morehouse outshot and out-rebounded the University of West Georgia, but turned the ball over 28 times and lost to the Wolves 72-59.
Playing in the second game of the regular season and the second game of the SIAC/GSC Challenge, the Tigers fell to 0-2. West Georgia, which lost to Miles College, a day earlier, on a last second shot, started its season at 1-1.
The University of North Alabama was the only undefeated team in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Gulf South Conference Challenge, which is now in its second year. After beating Morehouse the day before, 89-74, UNA smashed Miles 100-47.
Morehouse shot 48 percent from the field and 61 percent from the line, compared to UWG's 40 percent and 57 percent. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 37-31, but the Wolves converted 28 turnovers into 37 points and held the Tigers winless.
For the second straight game, Austin Anderson played big for Morehouse, with 19 points, on 6-of-11 shots, including four three-pointers. Anderson's game high scoring followed a 25-point game the night before.
Darrius Williams also had another big game, with his second double-double, to start the season. Williams scored 13 points and hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds, before fouling out, with 20 seconds remaining.
Andrae Nelson bounced back from a four-point, one-rebound game and chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds, to go with three steals.
Malcolm Frank contributed seven points and four rebounds and Jonathan Tassin had five points and four rebounds.
Four Wolves' starters had double figures, led by Brett Seljak, with 17 points.
The Maroon Tigers hit the road to Florida, for the Hooters of Melbourne Thanksgiving Tournament. The Tigers will face the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, on Thursday, and will play the winner/loser of the Florida Tech/University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras game, Friday.
Morehouse will play its first home game, December 1, at Forbes Arena, against Elizabeth City State University, at 3:30 p.m.
