Maroon Tigers Pound Panthers

September 29, 2011 – ATLANTA – The battle for Atlanta University Center bragging rights was no contest, as Morehouse romped over the Clark Atlanta Panthers, 30-2.

In a televised matchup of cross-campus rivals that pitted the SIAC's best offense against its best defense, Morehouse dominated on both sides of the ball.

The Maroon Tigers yielded only a safety, while posting the third blowout win of the season.

Running back David Carter continued his bashing of opposing defenses, ripping off huge chunks of yardage on nearly every attempt. Carter, #1 in the SIAC and #5 in the nation, rolled up 148 yards, on 17 carries. His 8.7 yards-per-carry average will add to his conference lead in that category.

Carter scored the Maroon Tigers' first touchdown, on a seven-yard run, midway through the first quarter.

Mychal Harrison also had a big rushing game, lugging the pigskin for 55 yards and a touchdown.  Harrison scored the game's final touchdown, on a 30 yard dash to the end zone, at the end of the third quarter.

Harrison and Carter combined for 203 rushing yards, surpassing CAU total offensive output of 190 yards.

Lifting the House to a 4-1 record, the Tigers held the CAU offense to 56 yards on the ground and 134 passing yards.

Led by team leading tacklers, Elijah Anderson and Brandon Houston, the Morehouse defense racked up eight sacks and 11 tackles for loss.

Linebacker Charlie Wilson collected two-and-a-half sacks and defensive back Cameron Ford recorded two sacks. Scottie Williams and Mykel Green joined the sack-pack.

Quarterback Byron Ingram kept the Panther defense off balance all game long, executing the game plan to near perfection. He completed 20-of-24 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown.

Ingram's touchdown was a 23-yard strike to Darquan McCain with no time left in the first quarter that put Morehouse up 13-0.

The only other Morehouse scoring was a 35-yard field goal by Brandon Hoffman who also added two extra points.

Morehouse receivers were hauling in pass all over the field, on the way to the second-best receiving numbers of the season. Led by All-SIAC receiver Derrick Hector, five other pass catchers pulled in at least two receptions of 20 yards or more.

The Maroon Tigers will travel to Columbus, GA, to face theTuskegee Golden Tigers, in the 76th Annual Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic, October 8, at 2 p.m.
