April 20, 2011 – AUGUSTA, GA – Maroon Tiger golfers drove, pitched and putted their way to total dominance of the 2011 SIAC golfing ranks, claiming nearly every regular season, tournament and academic award available.
Coach Bill Lewis was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year. Every Morehouse golfer was named to the All-SIAC team and the All-Tournament team. Morehouse won the All-Academic Team award.
And if that weren't enough, Morehouse senior #Olajuwon Ajanaku# was voted the tournament MVP and the SIAC Player of the Year.
In the three-day tournament just completed in Augusta, Morehouse led from the first tee to the final green, with a score of 935, beating out Benedict (999), Kentucky State (1,036), Paine (1,090) and LeMoyne-Owen (1,234).
Ajanaku was the Low Medal winner, conquering the par-72 Jones Creek Golf Course, with a three-round score of 75 72 77 224 +8. He won by eight strokes over Benedict's Anthony Wik, the only non-Morehouse golfer to make the all-conference and all-tournament team.
#Thaddaeus Hill#, #Bryan McElderry#, #Earl Cooper# and #Bruce Cousins#, in that order, combined with Ajanaku to capture five of the top seven spots in the tournament.
Malcolm Parrish, a business administration major who competed during the regular season but not in the tournament, had the conference's best gpa, at 3.94.
This was the third straight SIAC crown for Morehouse.
Next up for the Maroon Tigers is a defense of their title, at the PGA National Minority Golf Tournament, in Port St. Lucie, FL, May 6-8.
