Tigers Slay Dragons 49-6

September 11, 2010—The Maroon Tiger defense smothered the Dragons, while the offense scored easily, in a 49-6 win over Lane College, in the home opener.

Just as it did against Fort Valley last week, the Morehouse defense dominated the Dragons, allowing zero yards passing and only 10 yards rushing.

The Tigers served up a steady diet of ground beef, as seven Tigers rushed for 223 yards. Once again David Carter led all rushers with 71 yards and a touchdown.

Vance King, listed as a defensive back, got in on the scoring parade, with a 3-yard scoring run, late in the game.

The win gives Morehouse a 3-0 season start for the first time since 1977.

Byron Ingram started at quarterback for Morehouse in place of William Brack. The 6'-5” transfer from Atlanta, rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Hector.

Derrin “Freight Train” Nettles was all that the name implies, in one of his best games ever. The 6'-3” defensive lineman repeatedly crashed through the Dragon offensive line, racking up a career-high15 tackles and a sack.

Running back Sam Gilmore recovered a Lane fumble in the end zone for a touchdown as a Maroon Tiger.

Junior defensive lineman Chigbo Annunoby collected 13 tackles and Brandon Cunningham and Brandon Houston each had eight.

Placekicker Ian Mullen added to his scoring numbers, with a 40-yard field goal and five extra points.

Morehouse returns to B.T. Harvey Stadium, Saturday, to face the Kentucky State Thorobreds, at 7 p.m.
