ATLANTA - Morehouse Volleyball is buzzing with excitement for an exhilarating trip to Los Angeles!
Partnering with Fort Valley State, the team has secured a remarkable opportunity to face off against powerhouse opponents UCLA, Pepperdine, and the University of Southern California from January 3rd to 6th.
This upcoming clash against UCLA holds special significance, as it marks a rematch from the inaugural season in 2022 when the Maroon Tigers faced the Bruins. Despite a valiant effort, Morehouse fell short, with UCLA claiming victory in three consecutive sets. However, the 2024 season promises a fresh start, introducing new talent and a revamped coaching staff.
A notable addition to the coaching roster is Head Coach Lamar Johnson, who takes the reins from his sister, Dr. Ashley Johnson. Lamar, previously the Assistant Coach, brings a wealth of experience, having excelled as both a coach and an athlete himself. He holds the record for the Most Solo Blocks in a Single Season at his Alma Mater, Adrian College, and has showcased his skills overseas in Spain. Alongside him are Assistant Coach, Corey Russ, and Operations Manager, Tatiana Stands. Lamar has also been the Head Coach of several programs including Adrian High School, Chicago Elite Volleyball Club, and his own company which offered private lessons to local high school students.
The anticipation is palpable as Morehouse eagerly anticipates this unique experience in Los Angeles. With a renewed roster and seasoned coaching staff, the Maroon Tigers are poised for an exciting and competitive 2024 season.
