COLUMBIA, SC | The Morehouse Maroon Tigers men's volleyball team showed heart and hustle in their final road contest of the season, pushing the Benedict Tigers across four competitive sets in a non-conference matchup against a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opponent on Sunday, April 13. Although Morehouse came away with a 3-1 loss (25-23, 16-25, 17-25, 22-25), the performance showcased grit, improved team chemistry, and standout individual efforts from several Maroon Tigers.
Set 1: Morehouse 25, Benedict 23
Morehouse came out swinging, earning their second set victory of the season with a 25-23 decision. The Maroon Tigers leaned on an early offensive rhythm led by
Charles Parrish Jr. and
Daniel Allen, while capitalizing on five Benedict service errors. A service ace from
Jamar Shackleford Jr. and multiple key kills helped Morehouse hold off a late Benedict rally to steal the opening set.
Set 2: Benedict 25, Morehouse 16
Benedict responded with a dominant second set, outhitting the Maroon Tigers with a .500 attack percentage. Despite Allen and Parrish's continued efforts, the Tigers' offense struggled to keep pace, committing five attack errors and four service errors. De'Andrae Taylor and Camron Petillo led the Benedict charge, evening the match at 1-1.
Set 3: Benedict 25, Morehouse 17
The third set began with a 5-1 Morehouse lead, but Benedict stormed back with aggressive net play, racking up eight blocks in the frame. Jared Brown and Zion Beckford swung momentum with big kills, but the Maroon Tigers couldn't overcome late offensive miscues and fell behind 2-1 in the match.
Set 4: Benedict 25, Morehouse 22
In the most closely contested set of the match, Morehouse and Benedict exchanged 10 ties and multiple lead changes. Parrish Jr. was electric, and
Michael Bloodworth added key points, but Benedict closed the set with a 3-0 run punctuated by back-to-back kills from Beckford and Taylor. The Tigers clinched the match with the 25-22 win.
