MACON, GA | Morehouse College baseball standouts Vernon Clay and Robert Robinson Jr. were selected to the 2026 SIAC Baseball All-Tournament Team, capping a memorable postseason run for the Maroon Tigers at the SIAC Baseball Tournament in Macon, Ga.
Clay and Robinson helped lead No. 5 Morehouse through the elimination bracket and into the tournament's final day, where the Maroon Tigers reached the elimination-bracket final against No. 1 Spring Hill. Morehouse closed the season with 25 wins, setting a modern program record for victories and advancing further in the SIAC Tournament than the program had in more than three decades.
Clay's All-Tournament selection was built on two critical postseason wins. His first victory of the tournament came in Morehouse's 15-2 elimination-game win over Kentucky State, when he gave the Maroon Tigers exactly what they needed on the mound. Clay worked 6.0 innings, allowed just two runs on four hits, struck out five and threw 82 pitches, helping Morehouse extend its season and move deeper into the elimination bracket.
He followed with another pivotal outing against Benedict, entering in relief with Morehouse trailing and helping steady the game. Clay earned the win after throwing 3.0 innings, allowing one run on no hits, striking out three and throwing 49 pitches in Morehouse's 15-11 comeback victory. Together, Clay's two tournament wins gave Morehouse nine important innings in elimination play and helped keep the Maroon Tigers alive for the final day of the championship.Clay finished the tournament with a 3.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across nine innings, earning two wins while striking out eight and helping anchor Morehouse's elimination-bracket run.
Robinson was one of the most dangerous bats in the tournament and produced in nearly every game he played. He opened the tournament against Savannah State by going 4-for-5 with four runs scored, a home run, one RBI, one walk and a stolen base, reaching safely throughout the night and setting the tone from the top of the lineup.
In Morehouse's elimination-game win over Kentucky State, Robinson started the game defensively but left the game in the top of the first inning with an injury and no at-bats. The Maroon Tigers rolled to a 15-2 victory in his absence. He returned to the middle of the offensive story against Miles, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs, one run scored and one walk. His two-run homer in the eighth tied the game at 7-7 and helped set up Morehouse's walk-off win in the ninth.
Robinson continued to impact the lineup against Benedict, finishing 1-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs and three walks. Benedict repeatedly chose not to pitch to him in key spots, issuing intentional walks that helped extend innings and create run-scoring opportunities for the Maroon Tigers. In the fifth inning, Robinson was intentionally walked before Elijah Pinckney delivered a two-run single, and Robinson later scored during Morehouse's eight-run frame. He was intentionally walked again in the eighth and came around to score on T.J. Whiteman's two-run single.
Robinson closed the tournament with another strong performance against Spring Hill, going 2-for-5 with a run scored in Morehouse's 6-4 loss in the elimination-bracket final. Across his tournament plate appearances, Robinson finished 10-for-17 with nine runs scored, seven RBIs, three home runs, one double and five walks, reinforcing his place among the top performers in the field. Robinson finished the tournament batting .588 with 20 total bases, a 1.176 slugging percentage and a 1.858 OPS.
For Morehouse, the All-Tournament selections added another milestone to a breakthrough season. Clay's elimination-game toughness and Robinson's consistent offensive production helped carry the Maroon Tigers through one of the most successful postseason runs in program history.
