Maroon Tigers close modern record-setting 25-win season after deepest SIAC Tournament run since 1994

Box Score MACON, GA | No. 5 Morehouse kept fighting until the final out Monday afternoon, outhitting No. 2 Spring Hill and bringing the tying run within reach in the ninth inning, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Maroon Tigers fell 6-4 to the Badgers in the elimination bracket final of the 2026 SIAC Baseball Tournament at Luther Williams Field. Morehouse closed the season at 25-21 after making its deepest SIAC Tournament run since 1994.

Spring Hill 6, Morehouse 4

Spring Hill jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning despite a strong start from freshman right-hander Cam Simmons, who opened the frame with two strikeouts. The Badgers were able to extend the inning after a hit batter, then scored on a Jaylen Jones RBI single and a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead.

The Badgers added two more in the third. Gavin Moran walked, John Webb singled, and Andrew Juez brought in a run with a bunt single. Later in the inning, Alex Roux was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, pushing Spring Hill's lead to 4-0.

Morehouse began to chip away in the fourth. Myles Tucker singled to center and moved to second when TJ Whiteman followed with a single to right. With two outs, Elijah James reached on a throwing error at first base, allowing Tucker to score and cutting the deficit to 4-1.

Spring Hill answered in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch to make it 5-1, but the Maroon Tigers responded again in the fifth. Satchel Hamilton walked, Robert Robinson Jr. singled and Elijah Pinckney drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out. Tucker grounded into a double play, but Hamilton crossed the plate to pull Morehouse within 5-2.

The Badgers pushed across their final run in the fifth on Jatnier Torres' sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 6-2.

Morehouse continued to battle. In the seventh, Robinson led off with a single, Tucker followed with a base hit to right, and Whiteman delivered an RBI single to left to score Robinson and make it 6-3. The Maroon Tigers added one more in the ninth when Pinckney walked, Tucker singled and Mariano McLean came through with a two-out RBI single to right, scoring Pinckney. Spring Hill escaped the inning and held on for the 6-4 decision.

Key Moments

The difference came down to Spring Hill's early scoring and Morehouse's missed chances with runners aboard. The Maroon Tigers finished with 11 hits and five walks, but stranded 11 runners and had two potential rallies slowed by double plays.

Morehouse had one of its best chances in the fifth after loading the bases with nobody out, but Spring Hill limited the damage to one run. The Maroon Tigers threatened again in the sixth when Tripp Braswell doubled down the left-field line and James walked, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning.

Even with the season on the line, the Maroon Tigers kept pressure on the Badgers late. The top of the order sparked the seventh-inning rally with hits from Robinson, Tucker and Whiteman, and the ninth-inning push gave Morehouse one final opportunity before Spring Hill closed it out.

On the mound, Simmons battled through four innings and struck out four. Dejorryn Pettis gave Morehouse two innings out of the bullpen, allowing one run, and Andwele Pittman finished strong with two hitless, scoreless innings and one strikeout.

Morehouse Leaders

Season Concludes

Morehouse closes the 2026 season at 25-21, finishing one of the most meaningful seasons in modern program history. The Maroon Tigers set a modern-era record for victories in a season, won multiple elimination games in Macon and reached the furthest point in the SIAC Baseball Tournament since 1994, when Morehouse also saw its postseason run end in the same round.

The season also brought major conference recognition. Morehouse earned two SIAC superlatives, with Braswell named SIAC Freshman of the Year and head coach Antonio Grissom named SIAC Coach of the Year. Pinckney also received the SIAC Elite 16 Award, while Elijah James, Robinson, Simmons and Pinckney earned All-SIAC recognition.

"This team gave Morehouse something to be proud of all season," said Director of Athletics Harold Ellis '92. "To set a modern-era record for wins, to fight through the elimination bracket, and to reach the deepest point this program has reached in the SIAC Tournament since 1994 says a lot about the character of our student-athletes and the leadership of Coach Grissom and his staff. This season was about more than wins and losses, it was about raising expectations for Morehouse baseball. Our seniors helped move this program forward, and our younger players showed that the future is bright."

For a team that entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed, the Maroon Tigers left Macon having shown the depth, toughness and growth that defined their 2026 season — and having raised the standard for what Morehouse baseball can build on moving forward. For up-to-date athletic information on the Maroon Tigers, follow them on social media or online at www.morehouseathletics.com or on Instagram at morehouse_baseball.
