Pinckney Reaches 200-Hit Milestone as Spring Hill Wins Series Opener

ATLANTA, GA | Morehouse was right in the fight early Friday afternoon, but a brutal ninth inning flipped the series opener on its head as Spring Hill pulled away for a 24-3 win in SIAC play at Gresham Park. The Maroon Tigers answered an early deficit in the first, stayed within reach into the middle innings, and saw senior shortstop Elijah Pinckney deliver a bright spot in the bottom of the ninth with career hit No. 200 on a double down the left-field line. Morehouse fell to 19-16 overall and 15-11 in conference play with the loss.

Scoring Summary

Spring Hill struck first with two runs in the opening inning on an RBI single and an RBI fielder's choice. Morehouse answered immediately in the bottom half. Robert Robinson Jr scored on a Badgers throwing error, then Elijah James lined an RBI single to center to bring home Tripp Braswell and tie the game at 2-2.

The Badgers moved back in front in the second with an RBI single, then created separation in the third with three more runs. Morehouse could not break through the rest of the way, and the game finally got away in the ninth when the Badgers erupted for 14 runs. The inning featured another homer, a three-run double, a two-run double, an RBI single, a three-run homer, and RBI doubles.

In the bottom of the ninth, Robinson singled and Pinckney followed by ripping a double down the left-field line for the 200th hit of his Morehouse career, giving the Maroon Tigers one final milestone moment in an otherwise difficult afternoon.

Morehouse's best punch came in the first inning when it capitalized on Spring Hill's shaky defense to erase the early 2-0 hole. The Maroon Tigers also had a chance to make things interesting in the seventh after Robinson and Braswell opened the inning with back-to-back singles, but a double play stalled the threat and kept the margin at 10-3. From there, Spring Hill's ninth-inning avalanche removed any suspense.

Pinckney's milestone was the clear bright spot late. Robinson also kept setting the table, finishing with three hits, while James and Robinson accounted for Morehouse's two RBI on the day. On the mound, Cam Simmons struck out five over four innings, but Spring Hill's patience and late power surge eventually wore the Maroon Tigers down.
