Late Rally Falls Short as Spring Hill Sweeps Saturday Twinbill from Morehouse on Senior Day

Pinckney #6 jersey retired

ATLANTA, GA | Morehouse showed plenty of fight in the nightcap, but Spring Hill took both ends of Saturday's SIAC doubleheader at Gresham Park, winning the opener 16-3 before holding off a furious Maroon Tigers comeback for a 13-11 win in eight innings in Game 2. Morehouse was hurt by big innings in both games, including an eight-run seventh in the opener, and then saw a seven-run rally in the nightcap go for naught when the Badgers answered in the eighth.

Game 1 — Spring Hill 16, Morehouse 3

Scoring Summary

Spring Hill came out swinging and grabbed control early, scoring twice in the first and adding another run in the second for a 3-0 lead. Morehouse answered with a run in the bottom of the second when Myles Tucker scored on a wild pitch, then cut the deficit to 5-2 in the fourth when Mariano McLean brought Tucker home with a groundout. But the Badgers kept the pressure on with a pair of solo home runs in the third, a three-run shot in the fifth, and then an eight-run seventh that broke the game open. Morehouse scratched across its final run in the bottom of the seventh on Tripp Braswell's RBI single.

Key Moments

The opener was still within reach for a while, but Spring Hill's power and patience separated the game. The Badgers hit four home runs and drew 11 walks, and their eight-run seventh turned a competitive game into a runaway. Morehouse did collect nine hits, but the Maroon Tigers could not string together enough big swings to keep pace.

Team Comparison

  • Hits: Spring Hill 11, Morehouse 9.
  • Errors: Morehouse 3, Spring Hill 1.
  • Extra-base hits: Spring Hill had four home runs; Morehouse had one double.
  • Base on Balls: Spring Hill drew 11 walks and two hit-by-pitches; Morehouse drew three walks.

  • Robert Robinson Jr.: 2-for-4, run scored.
  • Tripp Braswell: 1-for-3, RBI, walk.

Game 2 — Spring Hill 13, Morehouse 11 (8 innings)

Scoring Summary

The nightcap turned into a wild one. After a scoreless first, Spring Hill struck for five runs in the second, highlighted by Reggie Cooper's three-run homer. Morehouse answered immediately in the bottom half, getting a solo homer from Mariano McLean and a two-run single from Elijah Pinckney to pull within 5-3. The Badgers pushed the lead back out with a two-run homer in the third, two more runs in the fourth, and a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 11-4. The Maroon Tigers got one back on Tripp Braswell's solo shot in the fifth, then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh. Braswell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Myles Tucker ripped a two-run double, Kendyn Fredieu was hit by a pitch to force in another run, Caleb Harley added an RBI single, and Pinckney delivered again with a two-run single to tie the game at 11-11. Spring Hill had the final answer, though, as Jaylen Jones hit a two-run homer in the eighth that proved to be the difference.

Key Moments

Morehouse's seven-run seventh was the kind of rally that should have changed the day. The Maroon Tigers forced Spring Hill through three pitchers in the inning and tied the game after trailing by seven. But after all of that work, the Badgers responded immediately in the eighth with a two-run blast, and Morehouse could not mount one more comeback in the bottom half.
