ATLANTA, GA | The Morehouse College Department of Athletics proudly announced its academic performance for the 2024–25 academic year, highlighted by a strong overall cumulative GPA of 3.131 across all student-athletes. This achievement reflects the institution's continued commitment to academic excellence both on and off the field.
Among the academic standouts were two student-athletes who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, exemplifying the ideal of the scholar-athlete at Morehouse. Martin Thane (Jr., Business Administration) of football and Michael Banks (Jr., Business Administration) of track & field pulled perfection in the classroom for both the fall and spring semesters. These individuals demonstrated exceptional discipline and determination while balancing rigorous academic workloads with athletic competition.
In total, 68 out of 279 Morehouse student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.2 or higher, qualifying them for all-academic recognition.
"This performance underscores the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches, academic advisors, and support staff," said Harold Ellis '92, Athletic Director. "Academic success remains a central pillar of the Maroon Tiger athletic experience."
Ellis, in his second year as athletic director, saw the department GPA increase from 3.051 in the 2023-24 academic year to 3.131 in the 2024-25 academic year.
With student-athletes participating in a wide range of SIAC-sponsored sports—including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, track & field (indoor and outdoor), and volleyball—Morehouse continues to prove that competitive excellence and academic achievement can go hand-in-hand.
