ATLANTA, GA | Morehouse College continues to uphold its legacy of academic and athletic distinction, as 46 student-athletes were recognized earlier this week by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) on the 2024–25 All-Academic Honors list. Representing nine sports, these Maroon Tigers demonstrated exceptional performance in the classroom, with two earning perfect GPAs and several earning multiple selections across Commissioner's and All-Academic Teams.
Leading the way were junior Thane Martin Jr. from the football team and Michael Banks from the track & field team, who each earned a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in Business Administration. They were two of several Morehouse student-athletes named to the prestigious SIAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team, which honors those with a GPA of 3.4 or higher. In total, Morehouse had standout academic performers across nine sports, including football, basketball, cross country, tennis, golf, track and field, volleyball, and baseball.
Morehouse College Athletic Director Harold Ellis '92, a Maroon Tiger academic and athletic legend himself, praised the academic accomplishments of the student-athletes, "This recognition is a reflection of the discipline, resilience, and pride our young men bring to every facet of their Morehouse experience. We don't just compete—we lead, in the classroom and beyond. I couldn't be prouder of what these scholar-athletes represent."

The SIAC also announced the All-Academic Team, which is the equivalent of each sport's All-Conference Team, except it is focused on academics. The Maroon Tigers had 15 student-athletes selected to the SIAC All-Academic Team in their respective sport. The SIAC All-Academic Team has a minimum GPA requirement of a 3.2 and each team size is based upon the number of student-athletes required to play the sport.
